web page, plus copy-pasteable web code for services like ProtoPage or StartPage
I agree that putting the functionality of the iGoogle US Weather Radar gadget on a web page of its own would work well. I'm not sure the developer would want to maintain that, but seems like a good way to draw traffic to the developer's own site. But, for folks looking to replace iGoogle and not just this weather gadget, the more popular iGoogle-like services allow pasting web code or adding widgets or gadgets developed for their sites. The code you can get from wunderground and so on adds very limited weather "stickers". I'm trying ProtoPage and I've gotten all my iGoogle content on it except for weather gadgets that are worth viewing. Having access to copy and paste the US Weather Radar gadget code in a form that is HTML standard would be a good solution.

The webpage only version of the US Weather Radar has been completed. It can also be embedded into an iframe.
You can check it out at http://www.weatherng.com/ and let me know your comments.

Re Perplexed:
> Using Protopage. I've lost the menu at the bottom of the iFrame; there's a blank area at the top. Everything was fine while I added 3 or four duplicates of this one widget. That's when I discovered that, unlike with iGoogle, all of these widgets use the SAME configuration file; change one; change them all. That sucks.
Comment: sure it sucks ;-) config was handled by iGoogle in the past - now config is stored in cookies. storing config in the web is much more effort which nobody pays for and only few will use ...
> But, now I have cleared my cache (Firefox) and deleted and created widgets without getting that bottom menu back. I have seen it in the iFrame after clearing the cache and refreshing the page, but it was only there briefly until the map displayed.
Comment: Did you try making the gadget height smaller? There is a cookie controlling the height of the gadget. Try deleting that or setting to a different value. Did you make the gadget height smaller in prolopage? Will think of a reset function.

Thank you. It looks good, and is definitely usable. It does seem odd that I have to scroll the settings screen when it isn't even as large as my widget, but I can live with that.
I really appreciate what you did to get this working again. Your responsiveness was far beyond my expectations. -

A change to the config window size has been made. If the problem persists please send a screenshot.

Thank you for your work on trying to fix this. As it stands now, I would be happy with it.
However, there is still a problem with the settings screen, which I mentioned earlier.
I think it would be easiest if you set your settings to what I use, and you will see the problem immediately.
If you do that, and can't reproduce it, I will open a ticket and send the screenshots.
I have always used the widget as: Map Zoom: Larger Area, Map Size: 900, Widget Size: 950.
With your latest changes, and these settings used, you cannot see the settings unless you have the scrollbars turned on (which I don't want to do), because the settings screen becomes HUGE, but even so, if you turn the scrollbars on, you will see that the widget does some strange behavior with left and right width, and height. You can tell something is wrong at this setting, because the title of the map is no longer centered in the widget window.
Again, as far as I can tell, this is essentially the only thing not working like it did on iGoogle.
Great job! -

Mouse wheel configuration is now read correctly. Does not zoom anymore if not configured.

Please see below for getting the new version of the page.
About the scroll-bars i guess of the config menu: this is not totally clear what is the problem. When the screen area is smaller the config menu should be smaller as well. Please create a ticket with a screenshot if needed.

Q: I also have a screen shot of your widget on your AjaxGaierBlogspot site where I have moved the screen items on your sample weather from Seattle. If you could provide me with an email address, I would be happy to send you that.

Q: By the way, thank you very much for trying to get this fixed. I live in an area where severe weather is possible pretty much year around, and I rely on this widget daily. It is the best, by far, of all the others I have tried. And I have tried dozens and dozens of them, at least.

Will check about the scroll-wheel which has been reproduced.
Will also check about sticking windows somewhere else.
Do you have cookies enabled? Information is stored there as no central storage is avail right now.

Yes, Sir, that is correct. Regardless of what I do with the "Mousewheel zooms" setting, it does not stop zooming, which is very annoying. As I said, I have been using this widget for several years on iGoogle, and it works fine there. (Chrome browser, I only have one pc.) I did just upgrade to Windows8 Pro 2 days ago, from Win7, if that might make a difference, but I can still run my iGoogle version, and it still works fine.
With the iGoogle version, when I roll the wheel, the entire PAGE scrolls, not just the map in your widget. This is what I would like to happen in the Netvibes version.
Also in the new version, it is displaying some problems that I used to have often with the iGoogle version. The weather station, and to a certain degree, the forecast window do not stay locked in position, whether I have moved them or not. I like to dock them to the edges of the widget window, in my case to the upper right corner, because I don't get prevailing weather from that direction where I live (Iowa). -

Regards setting the zoom value:
Question was: Also, I always have the Zoom setting set to "Larger Area", but I'm not given that option when running it in NetVibes. Is it possible to be able to change it in the actual URL that you provided? If so, what is the valid code for "Larger Area"? The URL currently says "Metro".
The value should be "Larger%20Area" as part of the URL.
Regards the continuous zoom problem - what browser are you using? So if you scroll the mousewheel the zooming does not stop?

For Netvibes users there is now an explanation on http://weatherng.com/ which explains the steps how to add "US Weather Radar" to a Netvibes dashboard.
Explanations for Protopage and others will follow.
Also the information about the zoom-options has been added in the "General" section.

Update: I have been able to get the US Weather widget to load into Netvibes by using the URL.
However, I'm still having a few problems with it. Number 1 is that I can't get it to stop zooming when I use my mousewheel. I tried the config setting first, of course, but that seems to have no effect whatsoever.
PS. I've been using this widget every day for several years in iGoogle, and know the settings pretty thoroughly.

Could someone PLEASE describe, step-by-step (newbie), how to accomplish this exact thing on my Netvibes homepage?
I have not found anything so far that shows that Netvibes has any kind of 'template' widget that I can past your code into.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. -

In ProtoPage, under the Add Gadgets menu there is a Web Widget Code option. This is a blank widget. Clicking the Edit link for it allows you to paste in code, which is where I put the iFrame code you provided. Simple!

Stuckfly,
this is great to hear - how did you enter the URL in protopage?
Is there a iframe gadget? Or you just can enter the URL?
Best,
Ken -

I changed the size of the box in the code (not sure that was necessary, but I failed to notice the Config menu until after I did it). It works perfectly in ProtoPage. Once I saw and tweaked the Config menu and moved the inset items around, it's even better than I had it setup in iGoogle.
Many Thanks for providing this:)
